If you’ve ever wanted to step into the scenes of the iconic Pirates of the Caribbean ride and join those buccaneers on their rambunctious, rum-filled adventures, now is your chance. The Beak and Barrel opens in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park on Aug. 29, and we got a sneak peek inside the brand-new tavern. Located in Adventureland, right next to the attraction, The Beak and Barrel is an interactive bar that immerses guests in the world of both the classic Disney ride and the popular film franchise.

“You see references to the attraction, you see references to the movies, and this allows guests to immerse themselves in that pirate world. We like to think of this as just off-camera, so we are very much in that same world of both stories,” Chris Weck, senior creative director at Walt Disney Imagineering, told Travel + Leisure. She noted that Easter eggs from both the movies and the attraction are scattered throughout the space, including original artwork and props from the films. Fans of the attraction will spot a familiar sight—a pirate’s foot dangling from a hammock in the rafters, a nod to the beloved bridge-dwelling pirate that guests sail beneath on the ride.

Pirate flags hang from the ceiling, candles illuminate every nook, and an intricate wooden bar with a skull-shaped ship hull sets the stage for the action. Throughout your visit, Rummy the parrot makes a few appearances above the bar, and the entire space comes alive during interactive moments. Always-in-character cast members take the experience to the next level, cracking pirate jokes and weaving in the tavern’s lore as they take your order.

And, of course, the food and drinks play right into the pirate theme and ties everything together—think tropical beverages (rum-based cocktails included) and a selection of light bites.
“Beak and Barrel is such an incredible voyage for guests of all ages to enjoy. We really have some incredible provisions and cocktails, as well as some non-alcoholic specialty items which really scream fun and adventure, inspired by some tropical flavors and international travel,” Evan Rosenthal, food and beverage concept development manager at Disney Parks, told T+L.

The menu features Island Provisions—a spread of four savory dips served with plantain chips, tortilla chips, and flatbread—plus an octopus ceviche-style dish topped with a curly tentacle, and corn griddle cakes filled with either chicken or corn and peppers. There are also two signature mocktails, including the Treasure Trove, which is served alongside sweet treats. The cocktail list includes seven drinks, three of them rum-based, such as the Plunderer’s Punch, served in a souvenir pirate cup. Wine, beer, and select pours of rum round out the drink offerings.

This new experience builds on the best parts of Disney’s other themed lounges—like the next-level Star Wars immersion at Oga’s Cantina in Disney’s Hollywood Studios or the interactive fun at Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort—and takes things up a notch with one of Disney’s most beloved franchises. Like those experiences, you can expect Beak and Barrel to be very popular. Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made via the Disney World website or the My Disney Experience app. Visits last 45 minutes and are limited to two alcoholic drinks per guest.
