You’re in love, and that calls for something truly special. From candlelit dinners to postcard-perfect landscapes, honeymoon experts say there’s one place that delivers romance better than anywhere else in the world: Italy.

“I personally think Italy is one of the most romantic places due to having the complete package of great food, art, wine, and history,” Kara Simmons, the founder of Ready, Set, Booked, shared with Travel + Leisure.

“Italy is always a favorite of mine. You can do a full tour and see a little bit of everything, or stick to one or two areas like the Amalfi Coast, Tuscany, Lake Como, or Venice,” Kim Swanson, a travel agent in the U.S., added. “No matter where you go, it’s full of incredible food, scenery, and that classic romantic feel Italy does so well.”

Need more specifics to help you plan that special getaway with the love of your life? Here’s where the experts say you need to go in Italy for utter romance.

Lake Como

Italy’s lake district is the perfect destination for a lovey dovey getaway in style thanks to its legendary hotels along Lake Como. “Embrace the elegance of the Italian lakes, where sumptuous historic hotels become your private sanctuary, and every moment feels like a scene from a timeless romance,” destination wedding planner Muriel Saldalamacchia said.

She specifically noted that Villa d’Este has “timeless grandeur and impeccable service,” while Grand Hotel Tremezzo is “a Belle Époque masterpiece offering sweeping lake views and century-old traditions of luxury.” For modern-design lovers, she also recommended Il Sereno, describing it as “a modern icon of design, where contemporary sophistication meets the serene beauty of the water.”

Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast draws honeymooners for the views, the glittering Mediterranean sea, and of course, and some of Italy’s most legendary hotels. Saldalamacchia noted that the region unfolds “like a love letter to la dolce vita,” pointing to southern icons such as Capri Palace, “where island glamour mingles with contemporary artistry and sunlit indulgence,” and Villa Cimbrone, which she called “a romantic haven on the Amalfi Coast, suspended between sky and sea—a place where dreams seem to take shape among the gardens.”

Luxury advisor Christina Gales agreed, adding that her couples love Hotel Santa Caterina, explaining that here, “You’re perched on the cliffs with terraces overlooking the sea, plus a private beach club that feels like your own slice of paradise.”

Tuscany

Tuscany, with its historic estates and that unmistakable golden light, remains one of Italy’s most beloved honeymoon regions. “For those drawn to history and art, Tuscany, Italy embodies timeless romance,” Katarzyna Hauton, the group brand manager at eSky, said. “Rolling hills, candlelit dinners in centuries-old farmhouses, and villages like Montepulciano or Pienza create a cinematic atmosphere that feels tailor-made for two.”

Michelle Durpetti of Michelle Durpetti Events also recommended a stay at Castelfalfi, which offers truffle hunting along with those fantastic views and charm that make “every experience feels cinematic.” Plus, she said, “The spa is incredible.”

Florence

If you and your partner love to discuss art and architecture in every detail, then the pros say Florence is for you. Gales pointed couples toward the newly restored Collegio alla Querce, which she said is “ideal for couples who love art and design. It’s a historic 16th-century private palace that was converted to a boarding school from 1878 to 2000, and now it’s this intimate, beautifully restored hotel. The elevated position means you’re above the city noise and crowds—although shuttles are available—but you can still walk to the city centre.

Durpetti also cited Hotel Lungarno as a fantastic romantic getaway destination as it “is simply poetry in motion, with its refined interiors and views that make every sunset feel like a painting. And the location is perfect! Not to mention close to amazing restaurants like Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco.”

Puglia

For one more sun-drenched, romance-filled destination, the experts say Puglia delivers. That goes double for couples craving privacy and understated luxury. Durpetti singled out Masseria Torre Maizza as the spot to say, calling it the ideal honeymoon base. “Surrounded by olive groves and the Adriatic Sea, it’s serene and effortlessly chic,” Durpetti said. “It’s ideal for couples who want privacy, incredible food, and that slow, southern Italian rhythm of life.”
